Chapter Arts Centre

I’m in Cardiff, Lucy Ellinson is playing music in the kitchen and learning lines for Local Reality Expo on Market Road…a one off piece written for Chapter Arts Centre which is on Market Road, in Canton, Cardiff.

Writing a LRE on… involves sitting outside for 24 hours and writing about the very very ordinary things that happen in that place. When I did this for Market Road it rained all week. It’s quite hard to write in the rain. As soon as I arrived in Cardiff on Wednesday it started raining again. James Williams who will be playing the piano on stage with Lucy on Saturday night tells me that when I’m not here, Cardiff is really quite sunny.

Market Road is part of the Factory Floor mini festival of new work from 2pm until 9pm on the 20th March. It’s going to be eclectic and break neck: Have a speed date, meet Elvis and work with Elephants, move from life and death, to Market Road, gain an insight into being pregnant with breast cancer and have a post-Chekhovian lesson in love during civil war. Performances run from an intimate 5 minutes to an epic hour.
